Unique Needs
As homeschoolers get older, they outgrow many of the other programs available to them. They desire more time to simply socialize. They want to dive into more detailed projects without being interrupted by younger kids.
We listened to feedback from our tweens and teens and created The Clubhouse just for them. It’s a drop-off program; parents do not have to stay on site. Parents are welcome to stay if they like, but we ask that younger siblings do not stay.
Our Space
Our full space is available to The Clubhouse members. They can freely explore our wide library of books, games, art supplies, outdoor equipment, and more. They can put our full kitchen to use, enjoy our large outdoor area, or get creative in the Makerspace.
We have large tables perfect for tabletop gaming or spreading out detailed projects. Plus we have several great spots for simply lounging around with friends and letting the conversation flow.
What They Do
What does a day at The Clubhouse look like? The possibilities are unlimited!
Each week the tweens and teens who are present decide what they want to do.
They might pursue solo projects like reading or journaling, model building, research projects, or one-player games. They might collaborate on group projects like tabletop games, outdoor adventures, or science experiments.
You’ll often find a group huddled in intense conversation, whether it’s processing current events, swapping scary tales, or laughing about the latest memes.
Each day here is as unique as the members who drop in and their changing interests. However, there are some constants! Every moment at The Clubhouse strengthens friendships, enhances learning, and helps build confident, creative kids!
Facilitators
Big Tree facilitators are on hand for The Clubhouse, just like with our ALC program.
Facilitators for The Clubhouse don’t create a specific program for the members. Every activity is initiated by the kids themselves from week to week. Homeschoolers this age are more ready to shape their own activities with less input from grownups. Plus they need plenty of time to socialize, relax, have long conversations, and “do nothing” together.
Facilitators are a valuable resource when needed and are more in the background when not. Their responsibilities include:
- Making sure the space is safe and welcoming for all members.
- Connecting kids with the materials and resources they need to pursue their goals.
- Mediating conflicts that arise between members or helping members navigate group decision-making.
Membership
Membership in The Clubhouse is $40/mo per child. There’s no contract; it’s on a month-to-month basis.
With our ALC program, learners are expected to arrive on time and stay the full day in order to be fully immersed in community-building. The Clubhouse has a more casual, hangout-style feel. For any month they have an active membership, your homeschooler can show up as much or as little as they like during Clubhouse hours. Ask about bring-a-buddy options if they have a neighbor, friend, or relative who’d like to come along one day.
